July 13th and 14th the club held a camp and were very fortunate to have a great coach , P.J Fox, sent to us through Will Beglane, president of Baseball Ireland.
P.J comes from Rhode Island in the U.S. and it was a great pleasure to have him here.
We had 22 kids plus coaches at the camp and i'm sure we all learned a lot, including a few new ways of making Baseball even more fun.
The weather was'nt on our side on the 1st day and we had to go inside for some of the day but, on day two we were able to stay on the field, even when the rain did come we just carried on as the kids were having so much fun. We all went home wet and tired but very happy. P.J gave every person that attended the camp quality time and he was so patient with the younger kids. He also gave the players travelling to England plus a couple of potential pitchers an extra few hours coaching before he left us on the 15th.
Thank you P.J from all of us and we hope you come back again soon.
Just like last year Baseball Ireland have organised teams to travel to England in July. Michael Murphy, Graham Murphy, Killian McGovern, Tommy Condon, Levi Healy and Dylan Canty from Druids Baseball have all been chosen to be part of this years teams.
We are very proud of all of our club members and it's great recognition to have players from the club represent us at a national level.
We wish the lads and the entire team the Best of Luck in the games!!
On Saturday June 20th The Druids under 13 players plus coaches and supporters travelled to Co.Wicklow for some fun in the sun. We arrived late with apologies
but were determined to play our games!!!!
1st game was against The Comets from Cavan, it got off to a shakey start but both teams stayed pretty tight after that, until the 3rd inning when The Druids decided that today was going to be their day and they could'nt be caught.
2nd game was against The Cardinals and again the Druids had their minds made up that the game would be theirs. This game went for four innings, but in the end The Druids got this one!!!!!
Last but by no means least, came our game against our buddies The Mariners. As time was against us we were not sure if we would get to play this game but both teams decided that it would be to much fun to let go SO we played.....
After all the usual slagging and banter we managed to play two innings before we had to leave. And i think both teams were happy when we ended in a tie. There was some great baseball played by all and we would like to thank Michael, Steve and Paul and indeed all of the Mariners for a great day out!
We had a bus full of very happy people travelling back to Cork.
Well done to Darren and Jessica who were both injured but played on with a smile and Katie who was hit not once but twice in the ribs but she proved to be of tough Donoughmore stuff and she played on.....
Well done to all involved........................................
The club is delighted that we have a new addition this season, "THE BATTING CAGE "
Druids Baseball are very lucky to be based in Donoughmore, we have a great community here and a very supportive Community Center.
We are the first club in Ireland to have our very own batting cage, due to the hard work of Jason Murphy and Bernard Healy, to whom we are very grateful...
We hope the cage will be of great benefit to all of our players and visitors alike.
This year Druids Baseball decided to try start T-ball for kids aged 5-8. After doing a 6 week T-Ball course with Junior, Senior and 1st class pupils from St. Lachteens school in Donoughmore and interest was shown, we decided to go ahead.
T-Ball now has 24 kids who come up to the field Every Thursday to train and many have already shown potential to be future baseball players.
New Kids are welcome all the time and if you want any more information on either T-Ball or baseball you can contact Michelle Murphy on 086-8367301
Thank you to Carl o Brien and the staff of St. Lachteens school for their help and co-operation throughout the year.
The Druids held their annual June weekend tournament for both little league and cadets again this year.
Teams travelled from Kerry and Greystones to participate in the tournament.
The sun was shining on the day (for once) and fun was had by all involved. Some great baseball was played on the day and the kids learned a lot by being involved. It was great for the Cork kids to see all the local support they are getting and we hope that this will continue in the future.
A big Thanks to Kerry and Greystones for coming down Again!!
UP CORK
We would like to welcome all of our members this season including our returning players, our new players and our transferred players and coach.
We hope that this season with Druids Baseball Club will be great fun and rewarding for all involved.
Please don't be shy in approaching us if there's anything we can help you with.
Graham and Tamara Murphy from Druids Baseball were part of the U13s Irish team that travelled to Kutno, Poland to take part in the European Little League. The team included players from Cork, Kerry, Dublin, Greystones, Cavan and Antrim. While in Kutno the Irish team came up against teams from Germany, England, Turkey, Sweden, Lithuania and the Czech Republic and a friendly againt Moldova at the end.
Although the team wasnt placed any where, all that travelled enjoyed it immensly and it was a great exprience for all the kids involved and hopefully will encourage them to work hard to try and become part of th U16s team in the future.
Well done!
Michael Murphy and Conor Long from Druids Baseball were selected to travel to England as part of the Cadet All Star team on June 20th. The team played the Bracknell Blazers and the English All Star team while in London.
Although the Irish lads didnt win their games, it proved to be a valuable experience for all involved as they now know what they are up against. We hope this is only the beginning and that the team will have further experience in playing together at home and abroad.
Well Done Lads.
